Wisconsin Brass Quintet coming to Nicolet Feb. 22

The Wisconsin Brass Quintet will perform for audiences in the Nicolet College Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22.

Together since 1972, this talented troupe of performers is one of three faculty chamber ensembles in residence at University of Wisconsin Madison's Mead Witter School of Music, according to a Nicolet press release.

The quintet consists of Alex Noppe and Matthew Onstad on trumpets, Tom Curry on tuba, Mark Hetzler on trombone, Daniel Grabois on horn, and special guest Anthony DiSanza on percussion.

"Listening to the quintet perform is a magical experience as each musician miraculously weaves its individual sounds with just the right rhythm to create an orchestrated and beautiful musical piece," the release states.

American Record Guide reviewer Barry Kilpatrick calls the quintet "a remarkable ensemble that plays with reckless abandon, warmth, stylistic variety and interpretive interest than almost any quintet in memory."

The brass chamber music group performs regularly throughout the Midwest and nationally including live performances at New York's Carnegie Hall, Merkin Concert Hall and Weill Recital Hall. The quintet is also committed to education and offers memorable, interactive programs, master classes and seminars at UW-Madison along with clinics and residences at Julliard, Yale School of Music, University of Michigan and Northwestern University, the release states. In addition, the quintet performs on Wisconsin Public Radio as part of the annual "Celebrate Brass!" festival.

Tickets are $15 and can be purchased via nicoletlive.com or by calling (715) 365-4646. Beer and wine will be available at Bytes prior to the performance.
