Rhinelander Swim Club takes 2nd at CWSC championship
The meet was held over two days with the 10-and-under age group who swam on Saturday and the 11-and-over group on Sunday.
As a group, the Hodags posted 81 podium finishes at the meet, including 27 first-place finishes.
"These kids finished their regular season with a bang," RSC coach Megan Cihla said. "Each swimmer fought for every race, often times out touching the swimmer next to them, leaving everything in the pool. I'm proud of everyone that swam this weekend."
The Hodags set nine conference short course meter records during last weekend's meet. Jack Antonuk, 13, set a new mark in the 200-meter individual medley (2:29.74), which was also a new RSC club record. He also broke the conference record in the 100 butterfly (1:06.87).
Ella Heck, 8, posted conference records in the 100 freestyle (1:29.02) and the 100 IM (1:41.96); Samson Shinners, 10, set records in the 200 freestyle (2:47.04) and 100 butterfly (1:48.66); Brock Arrowood, 10, broke the record in the 400 freestyle (6:15.67); Abi Winnicki, 11, set a new mark in the 100 butterfly (1:17.21) and Makenna Winnicki broke the CWSC record in the 800 free (10:11.20).
Additionally, five swimmers obtained state-qualifying times in a total of six events - Antonuk (200 freestyle, 200 IM), Brock Arrowood (400 freestyle), Charlie Heck (100 freestyle, 1:09.10), Samson Shinners (200 IM, 3:20.74) and Makenna Winnicki (100 backstroke, 1:10.16).
"So many individual goals were met, records were broken, and cuts were achieved," Cihla said. "It's amazing how different these athletes look, compared to just three months ago. They've worked hard this season and it really paid off."
