Middle school boys 3rd, girls 4th at Nordic conference meet
Seven programs from the northern half of the state were on hand, including perennial powers Lakeland, Hayward and Chippewa Valley Nordic.
The Hodags boys finished behind Chippewa Valley and Lakeland, placing five skiers in the top 20, led by seventh-grader Jett Biolo, who finished seventh, covering the two-kilometer course in 9 minutes, 34.1 seconds. Kyle Morien was 10th (9:47.7), Sam Rutkowski was 14th (10:34.0), Will Rutkowski was 16th (11:04.1) and Travis White was 20th (11:30.7)
On the girls' side, Anna Wood led way, placing ninth overall (11:01.9), followed by Emma Germain (11th, 11:28.2), Megan Lester (15th, 11:43.5), Macy Lester (15th, 12:06.7) and Liana Teter (17th, 12:17.7).
In all, the Hodags had 21 skiers compete in the middle school conference race.
Two medal for Hodags at Badger State Games
Last Saturday, the Hodag middle schoolers were at Nine Mile Forest in Wausau for the Badger State Games. Twenty-four team members took part in the 4-kilometer freestyle race and seven took part in the 4-kilometer classic race.
Two skiers reached the podium for the Hodags in the 9-to-11 year-old division. Ryan Morien was a double silver medalist, taking second in his age group in both classic (15:15.5) and freestyle (12.46.7). Macy Lester took home the bronze medal in the girls' 9-11 division (13:09.9).
Anna Wood was fourth and Megan Lester finished fifth in the girls' 12-14 4K classic while Nora Rutkowski was fifth in the girls' 9-11 4K classic. Kyle Morien was the top-placing Hodag in boys' 12-14 4K classic, finishing 10th.
Jett Biolo led the Hodags in the boys' 4K freestyle, placing 10th in the 12-14 boys division, and 10th overall. Wood and Megan Lester again led the Hodag girls, placing sixth and eighth, respectively in the girls' 12-13 division. Nora Rutkowski and Violet Biolo were fifth and seventh in the girls' 9-11 division.
