The Rhinelander and Northland Pines boys' and girls' basketball teams got into the spirit of giving earlier this month during their doubleheader at the Jim Miazga Community Gymnasium.

All four programs, along with the Rhinelander Basketball Association's Little Hodags and Little Dribblers youth programs, took part in a toy drive for Kindness for Kids, a local organization that gives presents to kids of less fortunate families in the Northwoods during the holiday season.

"On behalf of the Kindness for Kids organization, we would like to thank both basketball teams tonight - the Rhinelander Hodag boys and girls, the little dribblers - and thank you to Northland Pines, who is joining the Rhinelander Hodag basketball team tonight (in donating items)," group spokesperson Alan Newman said during a presentation between the varsity girls' and boys' basketball contests Dec. 14. "The Kindness for Kids organization has been doing this for 24 years, but we can't do it without community help like this. We average about 250 to 300 kids a year. All the toys you see tonight will stay local, which is nice. So, we thank you, from the bottom of our hearts and Merry Christmas."
