JWMS student receives 'Hero of the Week' award
JWMS student receives 'Hero of the Week' award

Each week, radio station WIFC 95.5 FM and H&R Block honor and praise one student in the central Wisconsin area for helping others, making a difference or setting a positive example.
Marcus Anderson, a sixth grader, was nominated by his teacher, Meg Macdonald, for "being a great helper to his classmates while they were learning to use sewing machines in the sixth grade Family and Consumer Education class. He set up sewing machines for his classmates, helped students to thread bobbins, helped students who struggled to get started on sewing machines, and gave a lot of encouragement to his classmates," according to a press release.
DJ Mike Mathers from 95.5 WIFC radio station presented the award to Anderson Thursday.
"Marcus is a great example of how to be a leader in his class," Mathers said while presenting the award. "He regularly offers to assist other students with their work, he offers creative ideas for problems that stump his classmates. Marcus' commitment to kindness in his classes is exemplary."
Marcus thanked Mathers for the award.
"I'm happy," he said, noting that he was surprised to win and didn't know his teacher had nominated him back in October.
Marcus' family had a front-row seat for the ceremony.
"(We're) very proud of him, he does well at home and I like to see that carry over into his school," said his father Carl Anderson. "It was a proud moment for all of us."
Marcus's family didn't know he had been nominated for the award until they received a phone call Tuesday, he added.
