The Rhinelander High School girls' swim team was forced to call an audible late this week after a pump malfunction put the Heck Family Community Pool temporarily out of service.

Members of the team posed for a picture on Wednesday, showcasing their temporary facility - an area lake. The team practiced outdoors Wednesday, at the YMCA of the Northwoods Thursday and outdoors again Friday. Thursday's scheduled home dual against Colby/Abbotsford was also postponed as a result and has been rescheduled for Monday, Oct. 15.

"There is a situation with a pump that is currently broke down and the pool is unavailable to use until that piece is fixed," Rhinelander High School activities director Brian Paulson explained Thursday morning. "(That pump) helps run the pool and currently the water (level) is dipping below the gutters."

Paulson did not have a definite timeline as to when the Heck Pool would be back up and running but said once the district receives replacement parts, the fix should be relatively simple. The team was not scheduled to practice over Labor Day weekend, even prior to the malfunction, and will travel to Lakeland for a meet on Tuesday.

The next home meet at the Heck Pool is the Hodag Relays scheduled for Sept. 8.
