Hodag Farmers' Market transitioning into fall

Hodag Farmers' Market transitioning into fall

By Cassie Shefchik-

This is the time of year when the Hodag Farmers' Market takes on a festive appearance with riotous fall colors. The many fruits, vegetables, and fresh cut flowers that come in a rainbow of hues now adorn so many tables.

All of the regular vegetable vendors have added more tables to their stalls and some have even taken over an extra space. Other new vendors have joined our market too, bringing their extra produce to the park for our market. It now feels like the market is in full swing.

Some of the vendors have even planted more vegetables in their gardens recently. So even though summer and winter squash, tomatoes, cucumbers, okra, beans, corn and carrots are being harvested another planting of lettuces, radishes, and green onions is underway.

The Hodag Farmers' Market has provided a recipe board for the produce that is now in season. Whether you buy your produce at the market or have your own garden it's nice to get ideas for using all the wonderful veggies in your home menus. The best part of the recipe board is that it's not just vendors' recipes. Anyone can put up a recipe, all we ask is that you attach your name to any recipe you submit. I know of many fine culinary phenoms who have given the vendors ideas on menu options.

Even though summer is winding down, the Hodag Farmers' Market will be open every Saturday through mid-October.
