Dinky Diner to move to former Sportsman's Cafe building
By Kayla Thomason-
The last day of business at the old location was Aug. 26 and the new location is expected to open Sept. 8.
Terrie Bowman, co-owner of the Dinky Diner with her husband Rick Covin, said they started searching for a new location at the end of May when their current lease was up.
"We looked at several spots and decided The Sportsman's was our best option," she said. "We're thinking we are going to get more traffic being closer to town, but we certainly have a lot of locals that are looking forward to following us and we're looking forward to them following us."
Bowman said they plan to redesign the interior of the former Sportsman's Cafe to some degree, to make the space more their own, but declined to elaborate as she wants patrons to be surprised. The name on the building will also change to R & T's Dinky Diner.
The staff, phone number and hours will remain the same, she added.
The menu will also transfer over, although a few more breakfast and lunch options will be available.
"One of the things we will change is we will have grab-and-go breakfast sandwiches available," Bowman said.
Moving anywhere is an exciting and stressful endeavor, and it's no different for Bowman.
"It's a little stressful but we're getting there and I think it will be a good move for us," she said. "It will be exciting, it will be fun."
A grand opening celebration will be held in late September, she added.
Their hours are 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Saturday 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Sunday 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
