Fiber art from regional artists on display in the Nicolet College Art Gallery
"Many of the pieces in the show resulted from two challenges the group gave its members over the past two years," the release states. "In one challenge, members were asked to create seven individual pieces unified by an obvious motif such as color, fabric, technique, or pattern and fasten them together into a pleasing whole of any shape. In another challenge, members were asked to create a new fiber piece based on an earlier work, but reflecting what they've learned about color, design, and technique."
While most of the work is essentially two-dimensional, many include three-dimensional embellishments such as beads, buttons, twigs, and even rocks. Themes include geometric and asymmetrical designs, landscapes, wildlife, floral patterns, abstracts, and many others.
"It is a delight to see the domestic art of quilting elevated to this level of fine art," said gallery director Katy Ralph.
The exhibit will run through Sept. 8 with a closing reception that day from 2 to 4 p.m. in the gallery.
The Nicolet College Art Gallery is located in the Northwoods Center and is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. For additional information on this exhibit, call (715) 365-4556.
