Police department to hold active shooter response training session Aug. 24
The event is free to citizens of all ages, but advance registration is requested, according to a press release announcing the course.
"The Rhinelander Police Department has been offering CRASE training to numerous businesses over the past several years and during that time identified that many individuals would like the training but haven't had the opportunity," the release states. "By attending this event, you will learn what to do and how to reduce the dangers faced during one of these events."
The training will be led by Rhinelander Police Sergeant Angela Mertz.
"Sergeant Mertz is a certified CRASE instructor through the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training Center (ALERRT)," the release states. "Participants will learn about Avoid-Deny-Defend (ADD), this three-step plan for survival in the event of an active shooter event or other public acts of violence."
The cost of the event is free but seating is limited.
To register for the training session, contact the Oneida County Department on Aging at 715-369-6170 or toll-free at 800-379-7499.
