Rain eventually forced the cancellation of the stock car races at Eagle River Speedway last Friday night. However, the staff and racers didn't concede to Mother Nature without a valiant fight.

Substantial rainfall hit the Eagle River area around 5:30 p.m. and ended at approximately 6. Despite the downpour, the skies to the west appeared to offer a glimmer of hope to still get the races in. The Eagle River Speedway staff and races immediately began packing the track while the fans waited patiently.

After over an hour of trying to get the track in safe condition, the racers agreed that the track was simply to rough and wet to race.

Fans were given the option to use their gate entrance for tomorrow night's Cow Bell Street Stock series race, or get a refund.

"We gave it a valiant effort to get the races in, but the racers didn't feel the track set up good enough to compete safely," Eagle River Speedway promoter James Koga said. "However the fans are going to be treated to a great night of racing this Friday night with the Cow Bell Street Stock Series. It will be exciting to see how our racers do against the best around on the challenging tri-oval."

The Cow Bell Race Series features the top WISSOTA Street Stock racers throughout the Upper Midwest competing. Eagle River Speedway's regular slate of classes will also race. This includes the WISSOTA Sanctioned Midwest Modifieds, Pure Stock, Pro Truck, Sprint 600s and Junior Sprints.

The winner of the Cow Bell Street Stock Series race July 29 at TNT Speedway, Kyle Gennet of Auburndale, will be challenged by more than 20 other tour racers along with the top WISSOTA Street Stock racers at Eagle River Speedway.

Last Friday night's rainout at Eagle River marked the fourth time in five weeks that Mother Nature dampened the track's plans for a race.

The only race in that span occurred July 27. Markus Dunbar, Ryan Valeria and Ken Valeria took feature wins in the WISSOTA Midwest Modified, Street Stock and Pure Stock classes, respectively. Jake Ison was the Pro Truck feature winner that evening, Dylan Larson won the Sprint 600 feature and Cole Stella captured the win in the Junior Sprints.
