This year's event included informational booths, fresh vegetables, baked goods, Culver's ice cream, crafts, prizes, a bounce house, vision and dental screenings, and stations where kids could plant seeds or flowers.
"I love this event," said Diane Zarembke, YMCA childcare director. "I think it's great for our community. It's free, the Y has an open house all day so people can come in and swim and enjoy the Y on this beautiful day."
Dan Cahee brought his children to the event.
"I think it's great," he said. "(It's) something to do on the weekend for the kids and the kids seem to like it."
"We have our plant from last year still growing," he added. "I think it was a lettuce - it might have died - but it grew all summer last year."
Cahee's daughter, Morgan, liked the ice cream, planting, and making pinwheels.
Her pinwheel was red, orange, green, pink, purple and blue.
"It's cool," she said.
Children also had an opportunity to explore both the Spirit Helicopter and a Rhinelander Fire Department truck.
Quinn Williams, daughter of Ben Williams, especially enjoyed the helicopter.
She also enjoyed planting flowers and eating ice cream, she said.
"It's a good way for kids to get out in the community and just learn some new things that they don't see at home or in school every day," said Ben Williams. "It gets them active and they get to see the helicopter, the fire truck, the neat stuff they don't get to see every day."
The helicopter was landing as the Williamses were pulling into the parking lot, allowing them an excellent view of mini propeller-driver sandstorm.
"They (the children) were glued to the windows as we were driving in, so that was kind of fun," Williams said.
This was the third year the Williams family has attended Healthy Kids Day.
