Either by man or machine, Rhinelander High School sports teams are trying to give Mother Nature a head start in finally getting their fields ready for play.

AT RIGHT: Rhinelander High School softball team members Sophia McGinnis and Makayla Kuester shovel snow off the varsity playing field at Pioneer Park Wednesday, April 18.

BELOW RIGHT: A Bobcat clears snow from the Rhinelander High School soccer fields Tuesday, April 17.

With a high temperature forecasted in the mid 50s this weekend, the teams hope by clearing the fields they will be ready for play once the snow melts.

In the meantime, both teams are planning road trips for their first games of the season. The RHS girls' soccer team will play a triangular against D.C. Everest and Bay Port today in Madison. On Tuesday, both the RHS softball and baseball teams will take part in four-team invites at Woodside Sports Complex in Mauston, just north of Wisconsin Dells.
