Highly-flexible academic programs to assist students in earning a college credential while meeting job and family responsibilities is the goal at Nicolet College as more programs are converted to the Nicolet My Way format.

"Many students need that convenience factor to complete coursework at times that are best for them," Nicolet's Director of Enrollment Erika Warning said in a press release. "Nicolet My Way classes allow students to better fit college around their busy lives."

Information Technology instruction will soon be available outside of the traditional semester structure with numerous start dates during the year and a format that allows students to progress through the program at their own pace.

"This allows students to attend college on their own terms as they set their own schedules" Warning explained. "Instruction is offered in small bites that cover different competencies. Students then work their way through the competencies to earn their degree. When they master one set, they move on to the next. Students who want to learn only specific skill sets within the degree have that option."

Coursework is completed through a combination of online instruction and in flexible open labs, where students can work one-on-one with instructors.

"What's great is that if students already have some of the skills, they can get through those competencies pretty quickly," Warning said. "If they come across other competencies that are more challenging, they can take the time they need to master that skill set."

Nicolet's Welding program was the first to be offered in this format, beginning at the start of the current semester. Upcoming start dates for Welding students looking to learn specific skills or complete either of the two technical diplomas are May 7, July 9, Aug. 6, Sept. 4, Oct. 8, and Nov. 5.

The popularity of online classes, another component of Nicolet My Way, has surged at the college in recent years. Currently, nearly one-third of all credits taken at Nicolet are in online classes.

The college's associate's degree in business manager is now available entirely online. The Accounting associate's degree will go all-online beginning at the start of fall semester 2018.
