Four riders competed under the Rhinelander High School banner, led by junior Alexis Pyrchalla, who placed seventh in the junior varsity girls' division. She covered a 13-mile course in 1 hour, 21 minutes, 47.5 seconds. Teammate Emma Hjelle finished 10th in the junior varsity girls' division (1:21:04.8) and Freddy Wisner was 28th in the junior varsity Division 2 class with a time of 1:13:09.7.
Gwyneth Lowry placed eighth in the freshman girls' division with two-lap, nine-mile time of 1:00:59.8.
Lakeland's Johanna Craig, running under the Rhinelander Northwoods Composite banner, backed up a win in the opener at Minooka Park in Waukesha with a runner-up finish Sunday in the sophomore girls' division. Her time of 49:52.3 was 56.3 seconds off the pace set by race winner Madelyn Anderson of South Eau Claire.
RNC riders swept the top spots in the eight-grade divisions. Jakob Craig won the boys' race (22:22.9) and Megan Lester won the girls' race (28:16.4). Sage Flory finished third in the girls' eight-grade class, less than a minute behind Lester (29:08.3). The third race of the season takes place Oct. 1 on Trek Trails near Waterloo.
