Members of the Rhinelander Fire Department practiced drawing water into Engine 2 to send to their hoses Tuesday morning. A spokesman for the RFD said the training was primarily for newer firefighters to prepare them for working on mutual aid calls in the surrounding townships where fire hydrants are unavailable and water has to be drawn from other sources such as a portable tank, stream or river. The training also included simulating mechanical problems that the firefighters had to correct on the fly. The spray created a rainbow, a pretty side effect for the civilians watching.
