The third annual Harvest Hoedown, to be held from noon to 6 p.m. Sept. 30 at the Woodpecker Bar and Grill, will include loads of autumn-related activities for families including pumpkin painting, pumpkin bowling and the Corn Bin.

There will also be horse-drawn hayrides to the pumpkin patch, where children can choose their own pumpkin to be painted. Hayrides are $5 for children age 12 and up and $3 for those younger than 12.

"Everybody likes the horses and wagon rides and it's a nice wagon ride up through the woods to the pumpkin patch and back," said Guy Hansen, executive director of the Rhinelander Area Food Pantry (RAFP).

The ride lasts about 15 minutes.

There will be a variety of foods to try, including a pig roast, caramel apples and a well-stocked bake sale.

The pig roast is $8 a plate and includes beans, slaw, buns and chips.

For those who don't want the pork, there will be other options. Hot dogs are $2, hamburgers are $4, cheeseburgers are $5, brats are $3, fries are $2, and water, cider, coffee and lemonade is $1.

The Country Store will also be back again this year.

There will be raffle baskets plus a special Green Bay Packers ticket raffle for the Dec 3 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The seats are in the third row on the 45 yard line. Tickets for this raffle are $5.

There will be other raffles as well for a different charge per ticket.

The crowd can enjoy music performed by Scott Kirby, Paul and Paco, and Chris and Tess. There will also be line dancing and Zumba.

Hansen enjoys seeing families having fun in the nice autumn weather.

"People come and have a good time, I think that's the greatest thing, and if the weather is great it's just a beautiful day," he said.

Proceeds from the event go to the Northwoods Alliance for Temporary Housing (NATH) homeless shelter and the RAFP. There will also be jars out for collecting donations.

"NATH's fundraising committee has a $60,000 goal in 2017 so this fundraiser is very important to help us meet the goal and fund the operations of Frederick Place," said Tammy Modic, executive director of NATH/Frederick Place homeless shelter.

Off-site parking will be available at A1 Septic, down one side of County Rd. K, and down one side of Pine Grove Drive.
