Rhinelander had four of podium finishes. Lakeland Union High School sophomore Johanna Craig took first place in the sophomore girls' division, completing a two-lap, 11-mile course in 48 minutes, 48.1 seconds. Her younger brother, Jakob, finished second in the eighth-grade boys' division. His one-lap result of 22:58.7 was less than two seconds off the top time.
Megan Lester and Sage Flory both made the podium in the eighth-grade girls' division. Lester finished second with a time of 28:19.7 and Flory placed fifth with a time of 29:49.3.
Rhinelander High School teammates Emma Hjelle and Alexis Pyrchalla finished together in the junior varsity girls' race. Hjelle finished eighth in class, covering 16 miles in 1:20:00.4. Pyrchalla was ninth, 4.4 seconds behind her classmate. Gwenyth Lowry finished eighth in the freshman girls' division, with a two-lap time of 1:02:28.3.
Over in the boys' junior varsity, Division 2 class, Freddy Wisner placed 28th with a time of 1:12:01.8 over three laps. Hunter Bachmann finished 43rd (1:18:50.9).
Joey Belanger finished 13th in the sixth-grade boys' division (32:21.7).
Overall team results had not been posted by the WHSCL as of deadline.
Race No. 2 of the season takes place this Sunday at Nordic Mountain in Wild Rose.
