A 66-year-old Rhinelander man is facing a felony drug charge and three misdemeanors after he allegedly shot the rear tire of his neighbor's vehicle Tuesday afternoon.

Stephen G. Grundman was formally charged Thursday with possession with intent to deliver THC (>200-1000G), a class H felony, and the class A misdemeanors of negligent handling of a weapon, criminal damage to property and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The sheriff's department report attached to the criminal complaint alleges that sometime after 3 p.m. on Sept. 12, Grundman rode an ATV to a neighbor's house on Candy Lane in the town of Pelican and shot the rear tire of a vehicle before driving off toward his house on Dam Road.

The account was corroborated by another resident of the house and when deputies arrived they found that the rear tire of the vehicle had been shot, the complaint states.

After closing the road near Grundman's house, deputies approached the residence. Eventually, Grundman came out of the house and was taken into custody without incident. While securing the residence, a deputy spotted a handgun on top of a gun cabinet and what appeared to be marijuana on a living room table. After obtaining a search warrant from Judge Patrick O'Melia, deputies searched the residence and reportedly found a .22 caliber handgun with one empty chamber in the cylinder, along with a spent shell casing outside the house. They also found various amounts of marijuana in numerous spots in the house, including several zipper bags of the substance in a shopping bag in a bedroom, the complaint states. They also secured several rifles and shotguns.

At his initial appearance Thursday before O'Melia, a representative from the state public defender's office said Grundman qualifies for their services but a lawyer from outside their office will have to be appointed. He was given a $2,000 bond, $200 of it in cash and the rest as a signature bond. Conditions of his bond include surrenderring all firearms. He is also prohibited from having contact with the alleged victims and can only possess medication for which he has a prescription. He will make an adjourned initial appearance Oct. 2.
