The Hodag statue was commissioned by RASF vice president Harlan Larsen, who met artist Armando Jimenez during a trip to the Mexican state of Oaxaca (pronounced wa-HAA-kaa), the release states. Oaxaca is known for its alebrijes, which are carvings of animals, people, objects, and imaginary creatures painted with bright colors and detailed patterns. An artist by the name of Manuel Jimenez is often acknowledged as the father of Oaxacan woodcarving, and the artist who carved the Hodag statue, Armando Jimenez, is his grandson.
In addition to the statue itself, the raffle will also include a home for the Hodag, which was custom-made by Rhinelander High School students in their new Fab Lab. The cage is made up of a 3D-printed frame resembling a log cabin, with plexiglass sides and a removable plexiglass top for a clear view and easy access to the Hodag inside.
In addition to being available at both sporting and community events, tickets may also be made available online at rhinelanderasf.
org in the near future. For more details, follow RASF on facebook (RhinelanderAreaScholarshipFoundation), Twitter (@RASFHodags), or
