Louie was born June 10, 1942, in Rhinelander, to Earl and Bernice (Klug) Onson, who preceded him in death. He graduated from Rhinelander High School in 1960 and attended Michigan Technological University until Jan. 21, 1962, when his mother called him home to take over the family business due to his father's failing health.
Louis and his brother Tom owned and operated the Yellow Cab, Onson's Inn and Rustler's Saloon. He later becake an electrician and was a retired brother of IBEW Local 388, Stevens Point. He loved being an electrician, especially the time he spent traveling and working throughout California until his retirement in 2012.
Louie was a loving father to Jeff, Jane, Tim, Scott and his stepson Adam. He loved family vacations, teaching the kids to snow and water ski, and to hunt and fish. He took them fishing in Sylvania, skiing the Rockies, rafting and camping. He loved the outdoors, golf, his golden retrievers, especially little Polly. He enjoyed building and flying radio-controlled airplanes and he loved the Green Bay Packers. His Packers!
Louis is survived by his wife, Kathryn Onson of Tempe, Ariz.; his daughter, Jane (Scott) Detert of Rhinelander, and his sons, Jeff (Annette) Onson of Wausau, Tim (Tina) Onson of Antigo, Scott Onson of Platteville and Adam (Christie) Des Jarlais of Phoenix; his grandchildren, Nic (Kaitlin) Rebane, Brittany (CJ) England, Justin Rebane, Zach (Caitlin) Onson, Kayley Onson, Kyle Onson, Christian Des Jarlais, Alexis Des Jarlais, and four great-great-grandchildren. Louis is also survived by his brother Tom (Dolores) Onson of Gainesville, Ga., nephews Robert and John Onson, sisters-in-law Bev (Vern) Applekamp, Pat Raith, Linda Raith; brothers-in-law Bruce (Mary) Raith, Gary Raith, Kevin Raith and Mark (Laura) Raith, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was also preceded in death by his mother-in-law Delores Raith, a sister-in-law, Paula Desotelle, and a brother-in-law Art Raith.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at The Haven on Sunday, Sept. 17 at 4 p.m.
