Reception Nov. 3 for Kanyusik art exhibit at Nicolet College
Three members of the Kanyusik family, Bob, Janice and nephew Christopher, will each have works on display devoted to their different styles and approaches to art, according to a Nicolet press release.
Bob's Academic Visions portion of the exhibit will explore visions created from a philosophy of lifelong learning. Much of the work exhibited was created after he retired from a 40-year career teaching art at Nicolet. His pieces will range from digital media and graphics to a panel from a graphic novel. He holds a Master of Fine Art (MFA) in Print Making from Temple University and a Master of Art (MA) in Painting from Minnesota State University-St Cloud.
He has also served as juror for many art competitions and has been awarded numerous commissions, including the Vietnam Memorial Statue at the Highground in Neillsville. He has received many awards, including the Laird Leadership Foundation Arts Education Award, the Wisconsin Art Education Association Award, Wisconsin State Superintendent's Gender Equity in Education Award for Outstanding Contributions, and the State of Wisconsin Legislature Citation for the Veterans Memorial.
Janice's Intimate Visions portion will explore intimate observations of the natural world through photography and sculpture. Her photographs range from compositions discovered in nature to images on sidewalks. Her sculptural pieces arise from intuition and emotion and integrate textiles, beads, found objects, and items from nature. She was a counselor at Nicolet College and is now retired.
Christopher's Elemental Visions works will explore sculptural concept and the way various media react to and record interactions. He is an assistant professor of Ceramics and Sculpture at Utah State University in Price, Utah and holds a Master's of Fine Art (MFA) in Sculpture from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, California and an MFA in Ceramics/Ceramic Sculpture from Rochester Institute of Technology - School of American Crafts in Rochester, New York.
Admission to the exhibit and opening reception are free. Light refreshments will be served at the reception.
The Relative Visions exhibit will run through Nov. 21. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The Nicolet College Art Gallery is located in the Northwoods Center on the Rhinelander Campus, one mile south of the city just off of Hwy. G.
