"Directed by Australian Peter Weir, the movie depicts two young Australian runners who compete against one another and become fast friends," the release states. "Both enlist in the army and journey with other Australian and New Zealand soldiers to fight in the ill-conceived and disastrous 1915 campaign in Turkey to capture Constantinople (Istanbul) and knock Germany's ally the Ottoman Empire out of the war. Of the 75,000 Australian and New Zealand troops that fought in the battle, half were killed or wounded."
The film begins at 7 p.m. at ArtStart, 68 S. Stevens St., Rhinelander. Admission is free and a cash bar is available.
