Hard work pays off at Crescent
By By Gayle Daniel-
One project of the day was to install panels of student handprints. During the school's open house prior to the start of the school year, students were invited to take part in an art project where they selected a paint color, used a brayer to roll the paint on their hand, and then put their handprint on a panel. These panels were then sealed and prepared to be hung outdoors.
Another project was the repainting of the playground. The paint on the playground was difficult to see thus causing some difficulty during a hardy game of four-square or hopscotch. This is no longer an issue due to the hands and knees hard work of staff volunteers. Bright colors now define the playground areas.
A third project that was completed was the placement of the address onto the building. Vinyl letters and numbers were donated to the school and then placed above the building's front entrance.
The last project required some muscle and turned into a wonderful surprise. The flagpole in front of the school was extremely difficult to see, due to overgrowth of shrubs, bushes, and branches. While staff volunteers started to clear out this overgrowth, it was discovered that perennials were hidden below. Staff volunteers removed all of the overgrowth and aged shrubs to reposition and beautify the perennial garden surrounding the base of the flagpole. This area turned into a gorgeous centerpiece for students to view and care for.
Please feel free to stop by and take a look at our Crescent Elementary School facility. Staff, students, and parents are very proud of their school and plan to make additional improvements in the future.
