The Northwoods Axe has come to Rhinelander.
The Hodags racked up 519 yards and Logan Freund had six total touchdowns as the Hodags won a track meet over Lakeland 49-34 Friday night to end the season at Mike Webster Stadium.
The Hodags led 21-12 at the break and were stopped only twice offensively in the contest. Freund passed for five touchdowns, rushed for another and accounted for 292 yards of total offense. Five different players caught touchdown passes from Freund - Sam Tjugum, Reese Flores, Brad Comer, Peyton Erikson and Cole Spaulding.
Drake Martin added 210 yards rushing and a score for Rhinelander to finish at over 1,100 yards on the ground for the season.
Tyler Carroll passed for 259 yards, rushed for 76 more and accounted for four touchdowns for the T-Birds, who lost to Rhinelander for the first time since 2012.
Rhinelander (3-6, 2-4 Great Northern) finishes on a two-game winning streak - its first in Great Northern Conference play since defeating Ashland and Lakeland in succession in 2012.
