Wild Instincts documentary to debut at Rouman Cinema Oct. 21
By Kayla Thomason-
BBC Natural World's documentary "Supercharged Otters," which followed some of Wild Instincts' adorable otters, will have its U.S. debut Oct. 21 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Rhinelander's Rouman Cinema.
The documentary runs a little over an hour and Wild Instincts has about 15 minutes of screen time, according to Mark Naniot, director of rehabilitation at Wild Instincts.
"It was very good, there was some very amazing footage and some really neat stuff on there so I think people will really enjoy it," Naniot said, adding that Wild Instincts is the only rehab facility featured. The film also includes shots of wild otters, X-ray-type views on how otters move and how they are flexible, zoo otters eating in slow-motion and more.
According to Naniot, the film crew went to Singapore, the Amazon and other places to film wild otters.
Refreshments - sandwiches, cookies and a veggie plater - will be served at the reception and there will be an opportunity to see three education birds - a red-tailed hawk, a barred owl and a Peregrine falcon - up close. In addition to the show, there will also be outtakes, which will play after the main viewing.
"It should be a fun time, and of course the whole idea is to support Wild Instincts and otters in the future as well as all the other animals that we take care of as well," Naniot said.
The film crew visited Wild Instincts June 8-11, 2016 to film a segment on how a rehabilitation facility gets wild North American river otters back on their paws.
The cost to participate is $15 per person, and all proceeds go to Wild Instincts. Seating is limited to 200 people. If there are any tickets left over they will be at the door, but there will be no guarantees.
