The event, held during homeroom period on Tuesday, was a minute-long fundraiser benefitting those affected by natural disasters over the past several weeks, the release states. In the week prior to the event students representatives from the involved clubs advertised the event via posters all over the school. They also reminded students in the announcements and painted the window of the Digital Media Center classroom.
"In the recent weeks there have been many natural disasters including hurricanes Harvey, Maria, Irma, as well as many devastating forest fires," the release states. "These disasters destroyed millions of homes, schools, businesses, and even lives. Thousands of people all over the country are left with nothing to go home to, all of their belongings having been destroyed. The funds raised during Dollars for Disasters will be donated to the American Red Cross which has publicly promised to donate 91 cents for every dollar donated to victims of the natural disasters. The total collected during the fundraiser was $750. This project was able to not only help those in crisis situations but also unite our school for a common good that seems so distant from our local community."
