Town clerk reports Newbold hurricane relief supplies made it to Texas

Two weeks ago the town of Newbold put out a press release asking for hurricane relief supplies from the community, as a town employee planned to drive his personal vehicle and trailer to Texas to help those in need.

According to town clerk Kim Gauthier, T.J. Belunes left for Texas on Sept. 14 and returned on Sept. 18.

"I wanted to follow up with a big 'thank you' to those who supported T.J. Belunes' endeavor with donations to those effected by the hurricane in Texas," Gauthier said in a press release. "T.J. drove his truck and trailer 2,832 total miles from Rhinelander to Humble, Texas and back. He delivered 5,800 pounds of donations to a church disaster relief center (which) was responsible for distributing supplies directly to those effected by the hurricane. He was also supported by our community with $720 in gas cards and cash donations for his expenses. Thank you to all who contributed to help those in need in Texas! This was a big act of kindness from our little Northwoods community!"
