Community celebrates fall at Harvest Hoedown
Proceeds benefit RAFP and NATH
By Kayla Thomason-
Children and adults alike enjoyed food, games, activities and entertainment at the third annual Harvest Hoedown, benefitting the Rhinelander Area Food Pantry and Northwoods Alliance for Temporary Housing.
Guy Hansen, executive director of RAFP, said it was a spectacular day.
"I think the turnout is excellent," he said. "I think there's more people than we had before. The weather is absolutely perfect and people are just hanging around, enjoying the day and enjoying the music and enjoying the wagon rides and the food."
For young ones, the Harvest Hoedown featured some new games and activities this year such as bite the apple, lollypop pumpkin, pumpkin bowling, and Pump Up the Party bounce house, all of which were big hits.
Tammy Dye, administrative assistant to the executive director of NATH, was also pleased with the turnout.
"It's awesome, we've been busy since we opened the doors at noon and we've been blessed with a gorgeous day," she said.
"It's an awesome family, community event, the profits stay here locally between NATH and the Rhinelander Area Food Pantry, so we couldn't ask for more support because everybody's been great," she added.
Linnea Sandberg, her 4-year-old daughter Cami and 11-year-old daughter Chloe enjoyed the event.
"We came last year and it was really fun and the kids really enjoyed themselves so we just came again this year," she said. "I like it, it's fun, they have a lot of fun activities for the kids and it's nice for the community to get together before the snow hits."
Her family loved the apples, face painting and free games, she said.
Sandberg also loved that the event benefitted two good organizations.
"I think it's excellent, especially this time of year before the holiday season and things like that start, it's really important for a community to get together and donate to those kind of causes," she said.
Nancy Dinon and several family members, including three grandchildren, attended the event for the first time.
"We come to Rhinelander every year and my son-in-law was looking for events and he saw this in a pamphlet he picked up," she said, adding that they've love to come back next year.
"It's quaint, I think it's very family-oriented and I think it's a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon," she said.
RAFP and NATH, which operates the Frederick Place homeless shelter in Rhinelander, were thankful for all the support they have received from attendees and those who helped make the event possible
Hansen expressed appreciation to Bowen's Bus Service for shuttling people, the musicians who donated time, those who donated items, the volunteers and and Mike Hastreiter (owner of Bucketheads Sports Bar and The Woodpecker).
Dye thanked the sponsors, those that donated items and The Country Store.
The event typically raises $10,000 which is split between the two organizations.
