This Thanksgiving, Park City Credit Union gave away over 130 turkey dinners to families in need, bringing the annual tradition to over 800 turkey dinners since 2011, according to a credit union press release.

Each year the credit union accepts nominations for families that may not be able to have a traditional Thanksgiving dinner due to hardship, the release states.

The annual turkey drive began in Merrill in 2011, and a year later expanded to the Tomahawk, Rhinelander and Minocqua communities. In keeping with the credit union philosophy of "people helping people," members nominate their neighbors or friends or others they know in need of a quality meal. Park City staff and volunteers assemble and sort the turkeys, stuffing, rolls, pies and other fixings, leaving families with plenty of leftovers.

"This is truly making a difference for families in the Northwoods area," said Nicole Johnson, Vice President of Business Development and Marketing Strategies. "We are so touched to see that our staff, volunteers and members all share in our commitment to providing a fun and meaningful Thanksgiving experience."

The turkey dinners are a part of the Park City Cares initiative that celebrates the credit union's members and hometowns by completing random acts of kindness across the area. The program, which encourages people to #ShareTheCare, was recently honored with the Louise Herring Award for Philosophy in Action, recognizing member service, community involvement and financial education.
