Award-winning soprano Desiree Wattelet and Friends to ring in the holidays at the Nicolet Theatre
"My favorite accompanist Maura Prause and I will be performing classic Christmas carols with an operatic twist and some jazz flair. I'll also sing some traditional songs with my guitar," says Wattelet. The talented Wattelet says she's overjoyed to perform for family and friends this holiday season. "So many families are separated by distance and are spread around the world like many military families so it's nice to see everyone gathering together sharing an evening of music," says Wattelet.
Wattelet has performed with symphony orchestras and opera companies from coast to coast and is sure to provide audiences with an unforgettable musical experience, the release states. The online magazine Opera Japonica called Wattelet's performance in Elektra with the Austin Lyric Opera "outstanding because of her lustrous sound." Wattelet says the Nicolet College Theatre provides a more intimate venue than others she has performed in and says some of her songs can spur a variety of emotions in people. "It's the holidays and songs like 'Ave Maria' can bring back memories for people. It's an emotional song and some memories may be joyful, for others it may be tough as they are missing a loved one or waiting for one to come home," she said.
Her inspiration comes from singers such as Lena Horne and Nora Jones but she's developed her own memorable sound that has captivated audiences nationwide. Wattelet will showcase her signature voice and harmonize with her accompanying musicians to transform classic holiday tunes into magical musical masterpieces. "I'm excited to perform and see the audience appreciate, relax and enjoy the music," says Wattelet.
Wattelet's awards include Concerto Competition Winner and Vocal Recitalist of the Year from Stephen F. Austin State University in Texas, and Regional Finalist from the San Francisco Opera's Merola Program. She received several prestigious music scholarships during her educational training and completed her Doctor of Music Arts in Voice and Opera at the University of Texas.
The concert is set for 7:30 p.m. Dec. 9. Beer and wine will be available at Bytes next to the theater before the performance. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased via nicoletlive.com or by calling (715) 365-4646.
