Park City receives Herring Award for Philosophy in Action
Park City has been commended for the Park City Cares initiative, which recognizes their member-focused policies and practices. It also demonstrates the credit union's philosophy of people before profits. The credit union performs random acts of kindness throughout the Northwoods area, from delivering free cookies to firefighters to buying a stranger's lunch or volunteering for local charities. It's a culmination of celebrating members and the communities Park City serves, and then encourages others to #SharetheCare.
"We are incredibly grateful to accept such a prestigious award," said Val Mindak, president and CEO of Park City Credit Union. "The primary goal was to celebrate our communities. As a result of this initiative, our employees have been more engaged by becoming involved in charity drives and volunteerism."
As the first-place winner for Wisconsin, Park City advances to the national-level judging among similar-sized institutions.
"Credit unions are not-for-profit financial cooperatives owned by their depositors," said Brett Thompson, WI Credit Union League President and CEO. "Because consumers are the owners - not some small, faraway group of investors - credit unions' orientation is to deliver value to the people who use them for borrowing and saving. This award salutes credit unions whose decision-making sets a high standard for accountability to members, thereby preserving the value of having not-for-profit financial institutions as a distinct form of business in our state."
The award is named after Louise McCarren Herring, a credit union pioneer, who believed that the operational application of credit union philosophy - "people helping people" - was a powerful force for good.
