The Hodag BMX Club recently put a bow on its 2017 season with an awards party and banquet at Hodag Lanes in Rhinelander.
The club handed out its awards for the 2017 season, which included announcing its track champions for the season. Owen Ives was the overall boys' track champion and Raven Sturtevant was the overall girls' champion. The two accumulated more points than anyone else across all divisions at the Hodag BMX Track during the 2017 season. It was Sturtevant's seventh consecutive girls' title.
Individual class champions included Jadelynn Graper, McKaelynn Schettino, Paige Buss, Sturtevant, Matthew Schettino, Dawson Sachse, James Wergin, Weston Kibler, Max McConnell, David Houg, Ives, Garrett Graper, Trevin Walkowski, Brock Walkowski and JJ Wergin.
Trevin Walkowski was voted the club's most valuable racer. Alec Pilat was named rookie of the year, Garrett Graper was voted the club's most improved racer.
Four riders attended every race during the 2017 Hodag BMX Club season and were presented Ironman Awards from the club. Pilat, Dalton McCarty, Asher Rivord and Zakk Sorley won the award. It was the fourth consecutive Ironman for Sorley and the second straight for McCarty.
Hodag BMX competes in Gold Cup
Several members of the Hodag BMX Club traveled to Wisconsin Rapids last month for the North Central region Gold Cup championship race. The North Central region comprises seven states across the upper Midwest.
Hodag BMX track operator and coach Rob Deede earned a Gold Cup championship and a first-place plate in the 26-30 Expert Open division. Sturtevant finished third overall in the 15-16 Girls Cruiser class. Class rankings were determined by the results of the weekend races plus a rider's two best performances at qualifier races held throughout the summer.
