SDR Special Olympians compete in track regional
"All of the athletes had a strong finish to the season and performed outstanding," the district stated in a press release.
Maria Dornfeld placed fourth in the softball throw and 50-meter run. Miguel Gonzalez placed second in the softball throw and third in the 50, Neveah Johnson took third in the softball throw and seventh in the 100-meter run while Hannah Karstedt took seventh in the softball throw and fourth in the 50.
Erik Ratdke placed third in the shot put, seventh in the 100 run and fourth in the javelin throw. Spencer Smith placed fifth in the softball throw and second in the 50. Drake Winters placed third in the softball throw and sixth in the 100.
The team was able to qualify six athletes for the state meet to be held at UW-Stevens Point on June 8-10.
The following athletes will be attending this event:
• Paige Appling (3rd, shot put, 100; 1st, javelin).
• Allison Brunette (1st, softball toss)
• Stephan Herrmann (1st, softball). Herrmann additionally finished fifth in the 100.
• Emma Knapp (1st, 50; 2nd, softball toss).
• James Michniak (1st, softball toss; 2nd, 100).
• Devon Stanley (2nd, 100; 3rd, softball toss).
"All of the athletes
displayed amazing sportsmanship and worked hard throughout the season," the district stated.
