In partnership with area organizations and businesses, Oneida County 4-H is once again sponsoring the annual Family Fishing Fun Day event. Fishing will take place from 9 a.m. to noon June 3, at Hodag Park in Rhinelander. There is no charge for participation, and all ages are welcome. This event features pontoon boat rides care of "Let's Go Fishing," casting instruction, demonstrations from the Pine Lake Fire Department, Shoeder's Marine, the DNR and more. Educational stations including knot tying, fish identification, fish cleaning, leeches, artificial bait, water safety, and others provide an opportunity for youth and adults to gain the information they need to enjoy the sport and hobby of fishing. A special favorite over the past few years has been minnow races. Since this event corresponds with the free fishing weekend sponsored by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, everyone, young and old, can try their hand at fishing off the pier. Donations and special sponsorships from Remington BP and the United Steel Workers Union allow the first 150 youth will receive fishing-related prizes, and adults will be able to put names in a drawing for area business prizes. All youth participants will receive free dairy products from the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board, a hot dog from the Northwoods Lions Club and a frozen treat from Fundahs ice cream truck.
