The Rhinelander/Elcho/Three Lakes middle school club bowling team competed in the Wisconsin Middle School Bowling Club state tournament last Saturday at Dale's Weston Lanes.
The Hodags fared well in the team competition, placing ninth in the 39-team field. The team had a 2,077 total pinfall over a 12-game baker series (173.08 average). Menomonee Falls won the championship with a 2,215 pinfall.
The Hodags also had four bowlers compete in the individual portion of the state tournament. Kody Litzen won Boys' Division C with a 633 series. He bowled gamed of 247, 197 and 189. Mackenzie Bourcier was the runner-up in the top girls' division with a 627 series (256-204-167). Katrina Blasius was 12th in Girls' Division A (545, 179-199-167) and Jacob Wagler finished 29th in Boys' Division A (475, 161-139-175).
Those four, along with Cody Bednarz and Jeremiah Braun comprised the squad for the team portion of the tournament.
JV golfers fare well in two meets
The Rhinelander High School junior varsity golf team performed well in back-to-back meets to open the week, taking second Monday in an 18-hole match at Bass Lake Country Club in Deerbrook and first in a Great Northern Conference JV meet Tuesday at Indianhead Golf Course in Mosinee.
The Hodags shot 409 Monday to finish 20 strokes behind first-place Medford in the five-team meet at Bass Lake. Gunnar Millot led the way with a 99, Devon Gaber shot 101, Nick Schiek carded a 104, Nick Sandstrom shot 105, Scott Fox posted a 109 and Jacob Mahner shot 112.
The Hodags shot 197 in a nine-hole match Tuesday in Mosinee, defeating runner-up Tomahawk by eight strokes. Gaber and Schiek shared medalist honors with rounds of 46. Mahner shot 50, Fox carded a 55, Nathan Lawrence shot 60 and Ryan Holly shot 64.
