Jett Biolo, a sixth-grader, took first place in the Wisconsin Skiwerx Series in his age division. This competition scored a series of Wisconsin Nordic ski races throughout the ski season.
Grace Kern, also a sixth-grader, took third place in the Wisconsin Skiwerx series race in her age division.
The skiers earned points based on individual race results. Those results were tallied up at the end of the season to determine the winners. The Skiwerx Series awards were announced last Sunday during the Wisconsin Nordic Ski League's spring coaches meeting in Eau Claire.
Kern also qualified and skied in a regional CXC Youth Cup. This competition is based on a series of points earned from races in Minnesota, Michigan and Wisconsin. Kern was awarded fourth place in this series.
Coach Jim Wood praised the two skiers for their hard work and dedication to their sport.
"Grace and Jett should be very proud of their accomplishments," he said. "They skied against the best skiers in their age group in these races and stood their ground. It is impressive to see how these two young skiers placed amongst their peers in Wisconsin and beyond. We try to concentrate on skill development and fun in our middle school nordic program. Nice to see these kids having fun in their sport and being rewarded at the same time."
