Nicolet, 15 other technical colleges gather at State Capitol for Student Showcase
Lawmakers, business and industry professionals, and members of the general public toured the exhibits to learn about the technical college system, the skills training the colleges provide, and how this training advances economic development in Wisconsin.
"The Student Showcase gives that big picture view of the many, many different types of job skills that are being taught on technical college campuses across the state," said Nicolet College Vice President of Student Services Kate Ferrel, who attended the event.
"These are the exact skills students need to enjoy careers that are personally and professionally rewarding and what businesses need to be productive, efficient and profitable."
Nicolet's display had two facets. One was the first-of its-kind partnership Nicolet formed with the Potawatomi Tribal Community to offer all classes for the college's Professional Communications certificate in the tribal community. The other was Nicolet's new virtual welder, which dramatically shortens training time for students. Dozens of people tried out the welder, quickly realizing the high level of skill it takes to make a professional weld.
