St. Patrick's Day festivities in Rhinelander to begin this weekend

Don your green and line Brown Street for the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade, which will start at Zion Lutheran School and make its way around the bend by Pat's Tavern.
Last year more than 80 entries participated in the parade and the public turnout rivaled that of the Fourth of July Parade.
Many merchants will be participating in the festivities with specials, typical St. Patrick's Day food, and such.
"From talking to people - mostly taverns - people downtown have the best single day of the year is the St. Patrick's Day simply because they come down, they watch the parade and they stay downtown going to the pubs and eating places to get their cards signed," said Jack Winkler, co-organizer.
With the weather forecasted to in the mid 20s degrees this weekend Winkler said he thinks attendance will be down slightly.
Pub Crawl
Those who choose to participate in the Pub Crawl have a week to get their card signed to win prizes.
Tickets are $5 each, with half of the proceeds going to the Safe Ride fund, and the remaining half is used as prizes for ticket winners. Tickets can be purchased at any of the 30 participating downtown businesses.
Participants don't need to go to every participating establishment, but if they get all the places signed there is a separate drawing for them.
The drawing is March 17 at 9 p.m. at Big Daddy's.
"It goes to a good thing," Winkler said. "The Safe Ride Program is for people who come down and drink and don't want to drive their cars home so they get a safe ride, so that's what we're promoting, being responsible with their drinking and driving."
