The Rhinelander community turned out in force Saturday, March 4 at the Northwoods Banquet Center to support the 30th Annual Kiwanis Winter Escapes Extravaganza. The event raised over $20,000, which will be donated by the Kiwanis Club of Rhinelander to support projects and programs for local children and their families.

Area businesses donated dozens of prizes that were given away throughout the night to ticket holders. The Kiwanis Club awarded cash prizes totaling $3,000 to the 250th and the 500th ticket drawn from the barrel. The grand prize of $2,000 was award to Judy Walton of Lake Tomahawk. The second prize of $1,000 was won by Flo Erickson of Rhinelander.

According to the Kiwanis in its 30-year history, Winter Escapes has raised over $350,000 for Rhinelander area children.

Past projects funded with money raised through Winter Escapes include the children's art classroom at Rhinelander ArtStart, the greenhouse at the Rhinelander Food Pantry, the Pioneer Park playground equipment, construction of the lighted outdoor basketball court at Central School, the hiking trail at the YMCA and remodeling of the handicap training kitchen at Headwaters Inc.
