The build day is March 11 at the Rouman Cinema. Creators will have from 9 a.m. to noon to build their project, but can arrive earlier to unload the non-perishable goods.
"From 9 until noon is when you can actually build the structure but the doors will be open at about 7:30," said Bill Vancos, RAFP volunteer. "A lot of people like to unload the trucks and have everything staged so they can get a good jumpstart on it."
Each group brings in their own food, and RAFP will give the groups a $100 starter for food.
As of now, there are seven teams registered, which is about average.
"It's a very fun event, you hear lots of laughter and joking going on and there will be bantering going on back and forth between some of the groups," Vancos said.
"The serious side of it is there is obviously a need in our community," he added. "We are averaging almost 600,000 pounds of food distributed each year so that's a tremendous amount, so obviously we need things like this and the generosity of the community, which has been great over the years obviously, has allowed us to do this."
The designs will be up for two weeks, and people can vote for their favorites by dropping a non-perishable good in the tote in front of the project.
An awards ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. March 25. There are three awards: Most Cans Used, Judge's Choice, and People's Choice.
"They're really kind of cute trophies," Vancos said. "They're made with cans of vegetables so instead of the normal pillar of a trophy it will have a can with a label on it, it's kind of novel."
He is appreciative that the Rouman family lets them hold the event at the Rouman Cinema.
