As they have for two decades, young children crowded into the Rhinelander District Library's downstairs room Monday to enjoy local entertainer David Dall's musical celebration of Dr. Seuss.

"This is a very good turnout, one of our bigger ones that we've had," said Dall, adding that there were many happy, jumping toddlers in the group. "They were a spirited crowd, they really were involved and helping me and I love that."

Dall performed a variety of songs that got the children smiling and moving, and debuted a Dr. Seuss version of Bingo.

"I kind of came up with that (Dr. Seuss version of Bingo) yesterday," Dall said. "I was just playing around, thought 'hey - S-E-U-S-S.' Whenever I write Dr. Seuss I always have to look at the spelling because I'm not quite positive I have it right, so I thought 'hey, this would be a fun way to remember.'"

In his 20 years of performing for children, Dall witnessed a first on Monday - a girl showed her appreciation by hugging her favorite guitar, Ms. Strings.

"That was just beautiful," he said. "That little girl came up and she hugged Ms. Strings while Ms. Strings was sitting on her stand and she was so gentle and respectful and just backed away. It's those kind of moments that you have that are just so special that you hope to carry with you."

In the past, Dall said he has had children strum a few strings on Baby Guitar, but never has anyone hugged an instrument.

Dall loves playing songs for children and families, and doesn't intend to stop.

"Mr. Tom and I are going to go for 20 more (years), we discussed this last year," Dall said with a grin. "We'd be a little bit old but we'll be able to do it."

David Johnson and his family have attended the Dr. Seuss Birthday Bash for the past six or seven years and he enjoys it.

"It's a good program, I like it, the kids have fun," he said.

Rochelle Felde and her children attended the birthday party for the first time.

"We loved it," she said. "We really like (the programs the library offers), it's something nice to do and get them out of the house," she said.

Felde's favorite Dr. Seuss book is "There's a Wocket in my Pocket."

Chloe Felde, Felde's daughter, also enjoyed the party.

"I think it was super fun for little kids and big kids like me," she said.

Felde won a stuffed Seuss toy, which she said she will probably give to her little brother, Rory, as he really liked it.

She thought the program was "awesome" and hopes it continues.

"I think they are really cool and that they should do it a lot," she said.

Her favorite Dr. Seuss book is "And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street."

Dall is an avid supporter of public libraries and encourages others to visit them often.

"Just a reminder how important our libraries are and how awesome the Rhinelander District Library is because they're always doing special programs for everybody from 2- and 3-year olds to our retirees and so forth, so that's pretty cool," Dall said.

His favorite Dr. Seuss books are "Dr. Seuss's ABC," and "Hop on Pop," which he said he used to read to his kids when they were young.
