Chicago comedy improv group Baby Wants Candy to perform at Nicolet College March 11
"This is one of the hottest and most innovative comedy troupes out there right now," Nicolet College Theatre director Jim Nuttall said in a press release announcing the performance. "What they do on stage and how they make up these absolutely hilarious stories on the spot really is creative entertainment at its highest level."
A unique twist will include a dozen area high school students performing with the professional comedy troupe for about the first half hour of the show.
"The afternoon before the performance the students will participate in a three-hour comedy workshop led by a few veteran members of Baby Wants Candy," Nuttall explained. "Then come show time, they'll be up on stage with the entire cast showing us what they've got. Last year this was great fun and highly entertaining and I fully expect it will be the same this year."
The second half of the show will feature audience members shouting out names of musicals that have never been performed before.
The troupe then uses these audience-inspired titles as the theme for an on-the-spot original improv musical, the release states. Over the years, the traveling troupe has performed more than 2,000 shows to sold out audiences from Singapore to Edinburgh and New York City to Los Angeles.
They've been hailed as the "Best comedy in Chicago" by Chicago Magazine and described as a Saturday Night Live-caliber comedy troupe.
Their show last year at Nicolet was a sell-out and Nuttall said he expects the same this year.
For the first time, wine and beer will be sold before the performance and at intermission in the Bytes commons area next to the theatre.
Tickets are $15 and can be ordered online at nicoletlive.com or by calling (715) 365-4646.
