Ross Skeen, Teagan Guckenberg and Harlan Wojtusik each had RBI hits in the decisive third. Additionally, Rhinelander Green walked three times with the bases loaded in the inning and also drew a bases-loaded hit by pitch.
After Skeen walked and scored on an error in the bottom of the first inning to give Rhinelander Green the lead, Laser Pros rallied back and seemed to take control of the game with a three-run second and another run in the third.
Jordan Kuczmarski singled home Alex Olson for Laser Pros in the second. Jake Wilmot and Kuczmarski both scored on wild pitches during the inning. A pair of errors allowed Max Spaulding to reach and score in the third.
After Rhinelander Green's big inning, Laser Pros tried to mount a comeback as Seth Stafford turned into a one-man two-out rally. He singled, stole second and eventually scored thanks to a pair of wild pitches.
But Rhinelander Green answered with two in the bottom of the fourth. Skeen walked and scored on a two-out error. Payton Johnson later came around on a wild pitch. Jason Huseby's single in the fifth plated Quinn Lamers and ended the game via the 10-run rule.
Lamers took the win for Rhinelander Green, scattering three hits and striking out seven over five innings of work. Only three of the five runs he allowed were earned. Kuczmarski took the loss for Laser Pros, walking eight over 2 1/3 innings. Max Spaulding pitched two innings of relief for Laser Pros.
Every batter in Rhinelander Green's lineup recorded an RBI and scored at least one run. Guckenberg went 2-for-2 at the plate. Skeen, Wojtusik, Alex Kubeny and Huseby collected the team's other hits. Wilmot, Stafford and Kuczmarski has Laser Pros' three hits.
Laser Pros (4-4) dropped back to .500 prior to a home game against Eagle River Friday and a road game at Merrill Black Saturday, both of which concluded after deadline. Rhinelander Green (4-6) hosted Lakeland Friday night and rounds out its regular season at Merrill Blue Monday.
Tomahawk Blue 10, Rhinelander Prep 8
Rhinelander has clinched a spot on the Northwoods Babe Ruth Prep League regular season championship game, but not in the manner it had hoped.
The Hodags gave up five runs in the top of the seventh Thursday and lost to Tomahawk Blue 10-8 at Stafford Field. The loss snapped Rhinelander's 10-game losing streak, but the Hodags (10-2) clinched a spot in the July 10 championship game when third-place Eagle River lost at Merrill Gray on Thursday.
After spotting Tomahawk two runs in the top of the first, the Hodags got a run back in the bottom of the inning as Isaac Bixby doubled, stole third and scored on an error. Bixby drove in Brian Stoxen in the third to tie the game.
After Tomahawk regained the lead with a run in the top of the fourth, Rhinelander went ahead for the first time in the contest with three runs in the bottom half of the inning. Ian Miller doubled and came in on Mitch Wolosek's RBI single. Jacob Weddle and Wolosek also scored in the inning.
Tomahawk rallied for two in the fifth to tie the game before Rhinelander went ahead once more in the second. Joe Schneider singled in Ian Miller after Miller hit his second double of the contest.
Rhinelander tried to mount a rally in the seventh. Wolosek and Jackson Laabs both reached and scored, but Stoxen was thrown out at the plate trying to score on a wild pitch and Caleb Shefveland struck out to end the contest.
Bixby and Miller both went 3-for-3 at the plate for Rhinelander. Wolosek added a pair of hits.
Rhinelander travels to Tomahawk Gold Wednesday.
Rhinelander Black 7, Tomahawk 3
After snapping an eight-game losing streak, Rhinelander Black has now won two straight games. The latest was a 7-3 victory over Tomahawk in a Senior League Contest Thursday at Kahle Field in Tomahawk.
Tim Fox scattered three runs on three hits over six innings of work and added a pair of hits at the plate for the Hodags.
Rhinelander collected 10 hits overall on the night. Abe Laggis went 3-for-4 with a double. Travis Towne added a pair of hits and Devyn Orth, Nate Cogar and Ben Sinclair all had singles.
Rhinelander Black (3-8) closes out the regular season Monday night at home against Laser Pros.
