MOSINEE - Walks were the name of the game Friday night for the Rhinelander Post 7 Rebels and not in a good way.

Jacob DeMeyer and Easton Senoraske combined to issue 12 walks and Ty Cook delivered a walk-off hit as Mosinee rallied in the seventh to defeat the Rebels 4-3 in a Great Northern Legion Conference came at City Park.

Senoraske scored the go-ahead run in the top of the inning off Brad Quade's one-out double, but couldn't get the final out on the mound, walking home the tying run before surrendering Cook's winning base knock on a hard-hit ball through the hole between first and second on an 0-2 pitch.

"We didn't play a very good game tonight yet we were right in the game," Rebels manager Dan Huhnstock said. "We made some plays when we needed to make plays but this could have easily have been a 10-2 game. Too many walks, some costly errors and not having timely hitting when we had runners in scoring positions - you lose most games when you do that."

The game was a far cry from the 16-1 shellacking the Rebels placed on Mosinee in a non-conference game the previous Friday to kick off Rhinelander's home invitational. The Rebels mustered eight hits this time around, but also struck out nine times and left five runners in scoring position.

There were mistakes in the field, too. Cole Spaulding couldn't handle a throw at second on a potential double play ball in the third inning, which proved costly. Ty Cook hit a sacrifice fly later in the inningand Zach Bednar followed with an RBI infield hit deep in the hole at short, giving Mosinee an early 2-0 lead.

The Rebels chipped away at the deficit. Spaulding came all the way from first to score on Josh Randolph's two-out double in the fourth. Senoraske singled, got to second on an error, to third on a wild pitch and scored on Jacob DeMeyer's infield hit in the fifth to tie the game.

The Rebels were unable to take the lead that inning as Brad Comer, Tyler Blomdahl and Kurt Zuiker all struck out with DeMeyer in scoring position. Overall, Rhinelander was only 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position in the contest.

"With all the things we didn't do right, we were still right in this game and had chances to win," Huhnstock said. "I expect that out of our team every week and every game that we're going to play and have a chance to win a game."

DeMeyer labored through five innings on the mound, walking eight batters, despite allowing just the two unearned runs in the third. He struck out five and scattered five hits.

Senoraske worked out of a two-out jam with runners at the corners by striking out Brandon Bernarde in the sixth, but couldn't wiggle out of trouble in the seventh. A Christian Anderson walk and a Seth Kuhn single gave Mosinee two runners with only one out, Brett Cook then grounded into a fielder's choice and Kuhn's hard slide into second broke up a potential double play. Senoraske worked around leadoff hitter Jace Baumann, but then walked Matt Olson with the bases loaded to tie the game and set the stage for Ty Cook.

"Not sure what our walk total ended up being but it had to be close to double digits," Huhnstock said. "I don't know if it's a little bit of rust, if the weather had a little effect with the rain during the game. Who knows, but we just didn't execute the way that we should have."

A brief rain shower caused a two-minute delay with Mosinee batting in the sixth.

Mosinee stranded 15 runners in the contest, but did enough to win and remain perfect in the Great Northern Legion Conference (6-1, 5-0). Rhinelander dropped to 6-2 overall, and .500 in league play at 2-2.

The Rebels played Minocqua Monday night at Stafford Field in a game that concluded after deadline. Rhinelander plays Medford in a doubleheader Wednesday at Stafford Field starting at 5 p.m.
