According to a police department press release, Abel Jump is set to be released from prison today (June 13) and placed on supervision administered by the Department of Corrections.
"Mr. Jump will be required to register with the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry Program until June 19, 2037," the release states.
Jump was convicted in October 2012 of sending a series of Facebook messages to a 16-year-old girl to arrange a meeting at a hotel to have sex. The messages were sent while Jump was participating in National Guard training in Minnesota, according to trial testimony.
At trial, Jump claimed another person was messaging the 16-year-old girl through his Facebook account, but the state presented testimony from his fellow guardsmen who said Jump was constantly using his cellphone while they worked kitchen duty during the time period in question.
Jump will remain on intensive supervision until June 19, 2022.
