Celebrate your ancestry at Heritage Fest in Three Lakes
By Kayla Thomason-
The event, which celebrates Polish, Italian, German, Wisconsin and U.S. heritage, will be held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Cy Williams Park, 1704 Superior St., in Three Lakes.
The event will begin with a Parade of Flags Ceremony where several national anthems will be played.
Guests can sink their teeth into the dishes of their ancestors - or try the food associated with another heritage - and drink imported beer and wine such as Zyweic, a Polish beer, and Peroni, an Italian beer.
German food will include beef rouladen, which is steak pounded flat with a little mustard and bacon wrapped around a pickle; Heidelburger; Spaetzle, which is kind of like an egg noodle. If you have room for dessert, a flavorful bumbleberry strudel will be served.
Polish foods will include Golabki (pronounced go womb key) which is a cabbage roll, Polska Kielbasa (pronounced: Keel bah sah), to be provided by Trig's Smokehouse; Perogies (pronounced pier rogue ees), Kapusta (pronounced Kuh poo stuh) which is sauerkraut. Dessert will be Kolaches (pronounced: Koe lotch keys), which is "a yummy light cookie-like dough, filled in the center with cherry, or apple or apricot filling," said Sid Brunswick, of the Three Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce.
Italian foods will include Trig's Smokehouse Italian Sausage Sandwich, Italian Beef Sandwich, Italian Beef/Sausage Combo Sandwich, Pizza, Whatsamatteryou Dog, Whatsamatteryou Cheese Dog, French Fries, Cheese Fries, marinara sauce and sweet peppers. For dessert there will be profiterole, an Italian cream puff.
Wisconsin foods will include either beef, elk or bison burgers, pulled pork sandwiches, Trig's Smokehouse brats, sloppy nachos, sloppy joes, popcorn, chips, slushies, cotton candy, coffee. For dessert, enjoy a slice of iconic apple pie or a cupcake.
Entertainment will include Bret and Frisk, Kinsella Irish Dancers from Milwaukee, Diamond Pepper "Songs of Neil Diamond," Woodland Strings, and 1-2-3 Lakes Dance Studio. There will also be face painting and the Three Lakes Genealogical Society will man a "Find Your Heritage" booth. There will also be other organizations from the area.
