The Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) and Nicolet Area Technical College honored the Vilas County Economic Development Corporation (VCEDC) earlier this month for its commitment to education. The WTCS Futuremaker Partner award recognizes the dynamic and enduring partnerships between Wisconsin's technical colleges and employers.

"We're pleased to honor VCEDC, which clearly recognizes the role of education in fostering economic development," WTCS Board President S. Mark Tyler said in a press release. "Our Futuremaker Partner list includes many of Wisconsin's leading companies, so it's a natural extension to honor a group with a rich history of working with employers and entrepreneurs to drive economic growth in the region."

VCEDC works to create successful public-private partnerships that stimulate sustainable economic growth. It provides innovative leadership and regional infrastructure to improve the economic climate in Vilas County, promotes creation of new businesses and growth of existing ones, and provides increased opportunities for education to help strengthen the region's workforce. The connections and expertise of VCEDC board members has proven value for Nicolet students and graduates, the release states.

"The importance of promoting educational opportunities is reflected in our mission statement," said VCEDC chair Carl Ruedebusch.

VCEDC also has long recognized the value to the region of entrepreneurship, with more than 120 Vilas County residents completing training through scholarships offered by the Juday Gift Fund. "We turn to Nicolet and WTCS as our entrepreneurship trainer of choice," Ruedebusch said. "Dave Juday, our vice chair, is a visionary leader in our organization and for our communities," Ruedebusch said, noting that the Juday family supports additional scholarships and emergency funding for students.

Nicolet College President Richard Nelson praised VCEDC's close partnership with the college. "We're truly honored to count VCEDC among our great friends and supporters. It is a visionary economic development organization that actively identifies and enthusiastically promotes business opportunities in Wisconsin's Northwoods."
