Little League: Hodags' tourney run ended by Wausau American
The Hodags rallied from a 6-2 deficit to take the lead in the fifth inning, but the Americans scored twice in the bottom of the frame for what proved to be the difference in the contest.
Sam Schneider went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles in the loss for Rhinelander. Caleb Olcikas, AJ Turek and Mason Davis had the team's other hits. The Hodags were patient at the plate, drawing 11 walks in the contest.
Olcikas walked and scored in the first inning on a bases-loaded walk by Mason Davis while Ryan Jamison drove in a run on a fielder's choice.
The Americans scored in every inning, taking the lead with a two-run second. They scored twice more in the third and once in the fourth to take a four-run lead.
Rhinelander responded with a big two-out rally in the fifth. Schneider hit a bases-clearing double and came on on a single by Davis, who later scored on a wild pitch.
Sam Nitzke tied it with a lead-off solo home run in the bottom of the fifth and Wausau retook the lead following an error later in the inning.
Davis, Jamison and Max Ratty all pitched in the contest for Rhinelander. The Hodags finished 2-2 in the tournament. They defeated Wausau American 9-5 to start the tournament a week earlier in Rhinelander.
