Rhinelander attorney honored with two awards

Amy Ferguson of O'Melia, Schiek & McEldowney S.C. in Rhinelander has received two prestigious honors in recognition of her work bringing young lawyers to rural communities.

Ferguson received the President's Award, presented by State Bar of Wisconsin President Fran Deisinger to State Bar members who have been instrumental in furthering the goals of the State Bar and the president during his term.

Ferguson was honored for her service as co-chair of the New Lawyer Challenges Committee and Chair of the Greater Wisconsin Initiative Subcommittee.

The New Lawyer Challenges Committee recently launched the Greater Wisconsin Initiative Bus Tour to bring new lawyers and their significant others on a tour to better understand the benefits of living and practicing in rural communities. Ferguson also serves on the Young Lawyers Division board of directors and previously served on the Local Bar Relations Committee.

Also in recognition of her work with the New Lawyer Challenges Committee, Ferguson was honored with the Gordon Sinykin Award of Excellence,

According to a press release from the State Bar of Wisconsin, the Gordon Sinykin Award is presented by the Wisconsin Law Foundation and recognizes a lawyer, law firm, or group of lawyers for their work on an individual law-related education or public service project.

A 2005 graduate of Rhinelander High School, Ferguson has been with O'Melia, Schiek & McEldowney S.C. for 5 years.
